Thank you!

Dear Friends, The whole country is watching as we prepare to select a new leader at this pivotal point in our history. To millions of progressive-minded Canadians, the NDP now represents the real alternative for change, thanks to the hard work of the late Jack Layton. When I re-entered politics last year, I did so because I didn’t like the way things were going in Ottawa. I didn’t like the divisive nature of our politics and I felt compelled to… Read more »

Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women

Today, my wife, my daughter and I would like to commemorate the lives of Geneviève Bergeron, Hélène Colgan, Nathalie Croteau, Barbara Daigneault, Anne-Marie Edward, Maud Haviernick, Maryse Laganière, Maryse Leclair, Anne-Marie Lemay, Sonia Pelletier, Michèle Richard, Annie St-Arneault, Annie Turcotte and Barbara Klucznik-Widajewicz. We must never forget them, or the countless other women who are murdered, injured, traumatized, and victimized simply because of their gender. On December 6, 1989, these fourteen innocent women were shot dead in their classroom by… Read more »

Ready for Real Leadership

Dear New Democrats, We are at a pivotal moment in the history of our party and our country. In just a few months, you will be asked to choose the next leader of the New Democratic Party. You will be asked to determine who has the real leadership experience to strengthen our party, to take on Stephen Harper, and to show Canadians we are ready to form the next government. On March 24, the question we will have to answer… Read more »

My Visit to Montreal

My recent trip to Quebec with mon ami et “guide touristique”, Stephan, was fantastic! I met with so many great people, from local MP’s, constituents, and party members, to Joe Morena, owner of St-Viateur bagel shop. Joe was very welcoming and showed me a picture, hung proudly on his wall, of him and Jack Layton. I had a delicious hot bagel on the spot and couldn’t resist buying a dozen more to bring home. There is good reason why those… Read more »

My Visit to Vancouver

My visit to Vancouver last week was fantastic. I am grateful for the generous hosting by my good friends, Fern and Don. They made me and Mike (who is helping out with my leadership campaign) feel very welcome, and were kind enough to invite friends and family to a meet and greet reception at their place in Chinatown. It was well attended, and a huge thanks to the people who came and engaged in a wide ranging discussion about the leadership,… Read more »

Canadians from all walks of life are watching as New Democrats prepare to select a new leader, as well they should. The future of our party and of our country will be greatly influenced by the leader we choose. As New Democrats and as Canadians, we are at a pivotal point in our history. We are just beginning to experience the full reality of Stephen Harper’s government. We see decisions made by a tight, secretive inner circle.
