St-John’s, Newfoundland – November 25, 2011 – NPD Leadership candidate and former Nova Scotia NDP leader, Robert Chisholm, today announced the support of NDP MP for St-John’s South– Mount Pearl, Ryan Cleary.
“Since being elected, Ryan has been getting the job done for his constituents and has proven to be a very effective MP in the House of Commons”, said Robert Chisholm. “Ryan is a strong voice for Newfoundland and Labrador and I’m honored to have his support. I look forward to working with him to start fixing Ottawa.”
“Robert is a proven leader and politician with the type of people skills that remind me of Jack Layton”, said Cleary as he joined with Chisholm in downtown St. John’s. “As leader of the NDP and of the Opposition in Nova Scotia, Robert knows what it takes to build a party from the roots up.”
Cleary said he’s proud to be part of Robert’s team as he builds support from here to the West coast. “Robert can finish what Jack started”, Cleary said. “He truly cares about people and he’s able to make them know they and their ideas are appreciated.”
During his visit to St-John’s, Robert Chisholm also received support from Wayne Lucas, CUPE regional vice-president, and president CUPE Newfoundland and Labrador.
“Robert has always fought hard for CUPE members and all union workers”, said Lucas. “The NDP needs a strong leader in Ottawa and Robert certainly has what it takes.”
